SIS50612 – Diploma of Sport Development – Sport, Recreation & Leisure

Through SEDA and Belgravia Leisure you will study an industry based course designed to provide you with first hand experience working in the sport, recreation and leisure industry. You will learn from Belgravia staff across a range of business areas and may have the opportunity to undertake a practical placement at Belgravia Leisure.

Course Duration

11 months

Course Delivery
  • 2 days of classroom based training and assessment (9.00am – 3.15pm)
  • Minimum of 180 hours of Practical Placement in the industry must be completed
  • 1-5 hours per week of structured online training

Areas of Study

As the coach you will plan, implement and evaluate coaching sessions which incorporate the use of sport psychology techniques. You will learn how to effectively utilise the assistance of support personnel (e.g. exercise physiologists, psychologists, strength and conditioning coach, assistant coach, dietician etc.) to get the best out of your athletes.
You will have the opportunity to design and deliver strength and conditioning programs to clients and gain first-hand experience as to what it is like to work in the fitness industry. As part delivering the training program you have developed you will also provide nutritional advice to your clients to increase their peak performance.
The event management area of study is designed to give you the opportunity to run your own event and experience what it would be like to work in the events industry. You will have the opportunity to develop your understanding of both sourcing sponsorship and utilising different approaches to generate revenue to run your event. There may also be the opportunity for you to run your event interstate or abroad!
You will develop an individual career plan and professional portfolio to kick start your career. This will help you secure a practical placement that will link to your interests and is specific to your career aspirations. You may have the opportunity to complete your placement with Belgravia Leisure.

Industry Opportunities

You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge of the sport, recreation and leisure industry by working Belgravia Leisure who connect the community to a range of leisure services.

The course will enable you to understand the different roles and jobs available in the sport, recreation and leisure industry and provide you with a number of industry experiences including;

  • Opportunity to complete industry based qualifications including pool life guard and first aid
  • Study in industry based classrooms at Belgravia facilities
  • Learn from and be mentored by highly credentialed people within the recreation and leisure industry
  • Opportunity to complete a practical placement with Belgravia Leisure
