Sport & Business Program

The Melbourne Victory Sport & Business Program offers students access to an elite sporting environment, whilst completing a dual diploma in sport and business. The unique partnership between SEDA and Melbourne Victory will enable you to build your networks, learn from leading industry experts, and provide a pathway to a range of careers.

Get exposure to inner sanctum game-day and community experiences with the Melbourne Victory team.

*Melbourne Victory Football Club works in collaboration with SEDA Group RTO: 22503 on marketing and promotional services relating to the recruitment of prospective students for this program. Some or all of this training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding, eligibility criteria apply.

SEDA delivers via a blended learning model incorporating three days face-to-face per week, one day teacher-led virtual classroom per week, and self-directed learning.

Areas of Study

Study a curriculum that is directly developed alongside industry experts. 

Students will be assessed using a range of different methods including but not limited to observations, projects, written assessments, portfolios, role plays and research tasks.

Develop, review, modify and evaluate psychological support strategies for community-based athletes in football. Learn about various sport psychology tools, techniques and concepts.

Develop a marketing strategy and business plan to promote programs, events, and/or activities. Learn about analysing and evaluating market data and how to manage risks when developing business opportunities.

Research corporate sustainability practices and develop sustainability policies and procedures for sporting venues. Learn about how elite sporting clubs remain viable in a competitive market.

Learn the skills to be successful working in a business environment. Lead your own personal development, further develop your emotional intelligence and learn how to develop these skills in colleagues. Research, analyse, and expand your knowledge of critical and creative thinking skills for use in the workplace.

Design and develop a local, interstate, or international event to improve participation, development and fan engagement outcomes for Melbourne Victory. Learn about topics such as project and event planning principles and engagement strategies.

Deliver a local, interstate, or international event to improve participation, development and fan engagement outcomes for Melbourne Victory linked to your work in the Project Planning Area of Study. Learn about topics such as project and event delivery principles and reporting.

Develop, implement, and review an integrated coaching program for football participants and teams. Learn about a range of coaching philosophies, theories, and frameworks.

Present integrity in sport and anti-doping information to community-based footballers. Learn about the legal and anti-doping requirements for football, as well as other sports integrity related issues such as fairness, ethics, gambling, match-fixing, and discrimination.

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is to be completed as a pre-requisite by Week 4 of Block 1 through an external provider (student choice) under a fee-for-service arrangement. 

Develop an understanding to implement and manage business resources in line with a project or event connected to partnership activities.

Learn about communicating with stakeholders, identifying funding prospects and presentation skills.

Develop a detailed career plan (MyPLAN) and professional portfolio to kickstart your career.

Secure and complete a practical placement with Melbourne Victory or other organisations in the sport, fitness, and recreation industry, and explore career pathways and acquire transferable skills in real workplace settings.

Educational Pathways

Graduates of the Melbourne Victory Sport & Business Program can gain direct entry* into a range of courses with leading tertiary education providers.

In some cases, graduates will also receive credit points towards the number of units or subjects a student is required to complete in a course. The number of credits a SEDA graduate can receive per course will vary between each education provider.

Start your career in a range of different industries. Our course options cater for a range of diverse interests and completing one of the specified courses with SEDA’s tertiary partners can set you up for your dream career.

International Tours

All Sport & Business Program students will have the opportunity to take part in an International Sport & Business Tour.

These tours are designed to give students a unique opportunity to engage with professional and elite sporting organisations on a global scale. Experiences will include attending sport events, touring sport facilities, visiting universities and sightseeing. 

Planned tours include:

– 2024 US Sport & Business Tour with a focus on basketball and American sports

– 2025 UK Sport & Business Tour with sport experiences including cricket and football (soccer)

Costs are additional to course fees and will be provided to students following an expression of interest process.

Admissions

Selection into the Melbourne Victory Sport & Business Program is based on an online application and interview process.

SEDA embraces diversity and applies ‘reasonable adjustments’ to cater for individual needs, including for students with a disability.

Please see below entry requirements into SEDA’s Sport & Business Programs:

  • Attend an interview and provide evidence in support of your application
  • Successfully complete a Pre-Training Review (PTR), and Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) test issued by SEDA
  • Individuals under the age of 18 must have gained parental/guardian consent to undertake the program

The VET Student Loans program assists eligible students pay tuition fees for approved vocational education and training (VET) courses. A VET Student Loan is a loan from the Australian Government that helps eligible students pay their tuition fees. Your loan is repaid through the Australian tax system when you reach the minimum income threshold for repayment.

In 2025, the VET Student Loan program will again be available for the SIS50321 Diploma of Sport & BSB50120 Diploma of Business with SEDA Group. A VET Student Loan will not be approved for students who do not meet eligibility requirements. In 2025, the maximum tuition fees for the Sport & Business Program SIS50321 Diploma of Sport and BSB50120 Diploma of Business is $19,950. A VET Student Loan gives rise to a VETSL debt that continues to be debt due to the Commonwealth.

Diversity & Inclusion Scholarships

SEDA Group (SEDA) and Melbourne Victory are proud to offer Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship options for students wishing to study Sport and Business in 2025.

Scholarships are available to eligible students who are seeking opportunities to explore a career in the field of Sport and Business.

Scholarships available:

  • Indigenous
  • CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse)
  • Full or partial tuition fee at discretion of SEDA Group and Melbourne Victory.
  • Indigenous scholarship covers full tuition fee when combined with the Skills First Aboriginal access fee waiver.

  • *Scholarship does not include $350 non-tuition fee, learning materials or provision of First Aid. HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is to be completed through an external provider/s under a fee for service arrangement. Fees may vary depending on the external provider and are in addition to the total program cost.

All students that wish to apply for a scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Commence SIS50321 Diploma of Sport and BSB50120 Diploma of Business in Term 1, 2025 (Sport & Business Program)#.
  • Satisfy SEDA’s admission requirements.
  • Be an Australian Citizen, have refugee status, hold permanent residency in Australia or be applying to live in Australia permanently^.
  • Be able to demonstrate financial need.

#Student must commence in Block 1, 2025 in the Sport & Business Program consistent with their scholarship. ^Subject to visa conditions.

To apply for a scholarship, please express your interest to the Student Enrolment Manager when enquiring about your relevant Sport & Business Program. If you receive, and accept, a letter of offer, you will then be required to submit a one-page scholarship application form covering the following:

  • Ability to meet the scholarship criteria 
  • Reason(s) for applying for the scholarship and what you would like to achieve in the program 
  • Academic background and achievements 
  • Community involvement


The deadline for scholarship applications in 5pm Monday, 28th October.

All applicants for scholarships are considered on the basis of merit providing equal opportunity to all applicants. Eligible candidates will be presented to a Scholarships Committee, which will undertake the selection of the recipient based on the above eligibility criteria.

The Scholarship Committee will be made up of at least three relevant staff members of SEDA and the relevant industry partner.

Applicants will be assessed on:

  • One-page application as outlined above.
  • One academic and one personal referee.


Awarding of scholarships will be made on the following criteria:

  • The impact the scholarship will have on the applicant’s future career in the sports and business sector.
  • The ability of the applicant to share a passion for their local sports club, sports interests or sports and business career aspirations. This can be demonstrated by online communications such as blogs, podcasts, social media, previous work, volunteer or student experience or any other relevant dreams or aspirations.


Preference may also be given to applicants who have experienced long-term disadvantage due to any of the following:

  • Experiencing financial hardship; and/or
  • From a non-English speaking background (NESB); and/or
  • Having a disability or long-term medical conditions; and/or
  • Experienced other educational barriers and/or personal hardship, including but not limited to carers, sole parents.

Scholarship recipients must commit to the following:

  • Positively represent SEDA Group and program partners.
  • Complete all aspects of the program, while making the most of the opportunities presented through the scholarship.
  • Participate in promotional activities of the scholarship, including media and events.
