Program Overview


The Collingwood Magpies Sport & Business Program gives you the opportunity to study in a practical, hands-on learning environment, and gain real experience working alongside the Collingwood Magpies. The unique partnership between SEDA and Collingwood will enable you to connect and learn from industry experts, coaches and elite athletes.

You will have the opportunity to study curriculum matched to your interests, complete a practical placement, run major projects, and participate in football or netball-specific high performance activities, designed to further develop your skills and experience.

Upon successful completion, you will have the opportunity to move into further study with one of SEDA’s higher education partners, or transition into the workforce, equipped with the knowledge and attributes for a successful future.

Program Delivery


Dual Diploma program delivered and assessed by SEDA comprising the SIS50319 Diploma of Sport, and the BSB50215 Diploma of Business

January 2021 intake – 36-weeks duration (not including holidays)
Program includes specialisations in Sport Development and Coaching, in addition to the requirements to satisfy the SISSS00116 High Performance Coach skill set
Four (4) days of face-to-face training and assessment, inclusive of facilitated online delivery for some study areas
Minimum of 80 hours of practical placement in industry
High-performance athlete development sessions, supported by the team at the Collingwood
Access to industry-leading facilities to complete practical sessions

The Collingwood Magpies Sport & Business Program offers a highly engaging learning environment and the opportunity for a range of exclusive and unique student experiences including:

• Inner sanctum game-day and community experiences with the Collingwood Magpies AFL, AFLW or Super Netball teams
• Working on real-time projects aligned to the strategic objectives of Collingwood Football Club
• Hearing from guest speakers and key industry personnel, including high-profile Collingwood professionals
• Access to industry leading facilities and resources, such as the Holden Centre, Melbourne Arena and the Olympic Park Precinct
• Immersion into a professional sporting environment that hosts both elite-level football and netball programs to develop insights into current and future career opportunities
• Practical placement opportunities
• Tertiary preparation workshops
• Tailored student support to assist with the transition to work or further study

Students will be assessed using a range of different methods including but not limited to observations, projects, written assessments, portfolios, role plays and research tasks.
The new program will be located in close proximity to Collingwood Football Club, who are based at Holden Centre, Olympic Park Melbourne.

Areas of Study


Design, develop and deliver a local, interstate, or international event to improve participation, development and fan engagement outcomes for Collingwood. Learn about topics such as project and event planning principles, engagement strategies and reporting.
Identify common hazards and risks in a facility, and review, monitor and maintain work health & safety policies and procedures. Learn about topics such as health, safety and environment, player contracts, and league compliance.
Develop, implement, and review an integrated coaching program for football or netball participants and teams. Learn about a range of coaching philosophies, theories, and frameworks.
Develop, review, modify and evaluate psychological support strategies for community-based athletes in football or netball. Learn about various sport psychology tools, techniques and concepts.
Present integrity in sport and anti-doping information to community-based footballers or netballers. Learn about anti-doping requirements for football and netball, as well as other sports integrity related issues such as fairness, ethics, gambling, match-fixing, and discrimination.
Implement and evaluate a talent identification program for football or netball. Learn about talent identification techniques, protocols, testing and performance measures.
Develop the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. Learn about first aid responses in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings

Develop a marketing strategy and implement a social media engagement plan to promote programs, events, and activities. Learn about analysing and evaluating market data, social media engagement plans, and a range of digital and social tools.
Implement a fundraising or sponsorship campaign and undertake fundraising and sponsorship activities. Learn about communicating with stakeholders, identifying funding prospects and presentation skills.
Develop an understanding of the key principles of strength and conditioning programs for elite and semi-elite footballers or netballers. Learn about topics such as exercise programming, rehabilitation and recovery.
Develop an understanding of performance nutrition for football and netball. Learn about healthy eating strategies, meal planning, food preparation and cooking.
Develop a detailed career plan (My Plan) and professional portfolio to kickstart your career.

Secure and complete a practical placement with Collingwood or other organisations in the sport, fitness, and recreation industry, and explore career pathways and acquire transferable skills in real workplace settings.

Develop an understanding of the various technologies utilised in the analysis of individuals and teams in football or netball. Learn about topics such as match analysis, player tracking, athlete management and monitoring.

TERTIARY PATHWAYS

 

Graduates of the Collingwood Magpies Sport & Business Program can gain direct entry* into a range of courses with leading tertiary education providers. In some cases, graduates will also receive credit points towards the number of units or subjects a student is required to complete in a course. The number of credits a SEDA graduate can receive per course will vary between each education provider.

Fees

In 2021, the maximum tuition fees for the Collingwood Magpies Sport & Business Program are:

SIS50319 Diploma of Sport – $8,588.80
BSB50215 Diploma of Business – $7,392.00

The VET Student Loans program assists eligible students pay tuition fees for approved vocational education and training (VET) courses. A VET Student Loan is a loan from the Australian Government that helps eligible students pay their tuition fees. Your loan is repaid through the Australian tax system when you reach the minimum income threshold for repayment.

VET Student Loan program is available for the SIS50319 Diploma of Sport & BSB50215 Diploma of Business with SEDA Group. A VET Student Loan will not be approved for students who do not meet eligibility requirements. In 2021, the maximum course fees are: SIS50319 Diploma of Sport = $10,688.95, BSB50215 Diploma of Business = $7,392.00. A VET Student Loan gives rise to a VETSL debt that continues to be debt due to the Commonwealth.

Admissions



Selection into the Collingwood Magpies Sport & Business Program is based on an online application and interview process.

  • Successful completion of Year 12 or approved equivalent^
  • Attend an interview and provide evidence in support of their application
  • Successfully compete a Pre-Training Review, and Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test issued by SEDA
  • Individuals under the age of 18 must have gained parental/guardian consent to undertake the program
  • Individuals who are unable to meet this requirement due to their individual circumstances will be considered on a case by case basis

Applications are submitted directly to SEDA Group. The course application form must be completed prior to enrolment. This form is an application form and does not enrol you into the SIS50319 Diploma of Sport or BSB50215 Diploma of Business. This form will be used to assess your eligibility for the courses and VET Student Loans.

Collingwood Football Club provides marketing and promotional services on behalf of SEDA relating to the recruitment of prospective students for this program.

You do not need to do anything.

SEDA Group will use your current Sports Industry Program application for the new Collingwood Magpies Sport & Business Program. If you wish to opt out, please contact SEDA Group as soon as possible.

SEDA Group is currently an approved VET Student Loans provider. Both the SIS50319 Diploma of Sport and BSB50215 Diploma of Business are VET Student Loans eligible courses. It is SEDA Group’s intention (subject to continuation of status as an approved provider) to offer VET Student Loans to as many students as require the income contingent loan scheme.
The new program will be located in close proximity to the Holden Centre, Olympic Park Melbourne. The exact location will be confirmed with students in due course. The objective is to be within close reach of Collingwood Football Club, who are based at the Holden Centre.
There are only 60 places available for the Collingwood Magpies Sport & Business Program. Once the number of applications exceeds the number of places available, any further applications received will be placed on a waiting list. Currently, applications are being processed in order of date received. Please note: An application does not guarantee the offer of a place in the Collingwood Magpies Sport & Business Program.
