Sports Industry Program

The one-year, dual Diploma based in Geelong is designed to give Year 12 graduates the opportunity to study in a practical environment, to learn from industry experts, coaches, and elite athletes whilst linking organisations such as Basketball Victoria and the Geelong Cats Football Club.

Areas of Study

Study a curriculum that is directly developed alongside industry experts. 

Students will be assessed using a range of different methods including but not limited to observations, projects, written assessments, portfolios, role plays and research tasks.

Design, develop and deliver a local, interstate, or international event to improve participation, development and/or fan engagement outcomes.

Identify common hazards and risks in a facility, and review, monitor and maintain work health & safety policies and procedures.

Develop, implement, and review an integrated coaching program for community-based participants/teams.

Develop, review, modify and evaluate psychological support strategies for community-based athletes.

Present integrity in sport and anti-doping information to community-based participants.

Implement and evaluate a talent identification program for participants.

Develop the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. Learn about first aid responses in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Develop a marketing strategy and implement a social media engagement plan to promote programs, events, or initiatives.

Implement a fundraising/sponsorship campaign or submission, and undertake fundraising and sponsorship activities.

Develop an understanding of the key principles of strength and conditioning programs for elite and semi-elite athletes.

Develop an understanding of performance nutrition for your chosen sport.

Develop a detailed career plan (MyPlan) and professional portfolio to kickstart your career.

Secure and complete a practical placement with our partner organisations or with other organisations in the sport, fitness, and recreation industry. 

Explore career pathways in real workplace settings and acquire transferable skills that employers’ value.

Develop an understanding of the various technologies utilised in the analysis of individuals and teams.

Tertiary Pathways

Graduates of the Sports Industry Program can gain direct entry* into a range of courses with leading tertiary education providers.

In some cases, graduates will also receive credit points towards the number of units or subjects a student is required to complete in a course. The number of credits a SEDA graduate can receive per course will vary between each education provider.

Admissions

Selection into the Sports Industry Program is based on an online application and interview process.

Please see below entry requirements into the Sports Industry Program:

  • Successful completion of Year 12 or approved equivalent^
  • Attend an interview and provide evidence in support of their application
  • Successfully complete a Pre-Training Review, and Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test issued by SEDA
  • Individuals under the age of 18 must have gained parental/guardian consent to undertake the program
  • Individuals who are unable to meet this requirement due to their individual circumstances will be considered on a case by case basis

The VET Student Loans program assists eligible students pay tuition fees for approved vocational education and training (VET) courses. A VET Student Loan is a loan from the Australian Government that helps eligible students pay their tuition fees. Your loan is repaid through the Australian tax system when you reach the minimum income threshold for repayment.

In 2021, the VET Student Loan program is available for the SIS50319 Diploma of Sport & BSB50215 Diploma of Business with SEDA Group. A VET Student Loan will not be approved for students who do not meet eligibility requirements. In 2021, the maximum course fees are: SIS50319 Diploma of Sport = $10,688.95, BSB50215 Diploma of Business = $7,392.00. A VET Student Loan gives rise to a VETSL debt that continues to be debt due to the Commonwealth. The VET Student Loan program in 2022 is subject to approval.
