Thinking on your feet in professional sport

I had the opportunity to work with the Sydney Kings throughout the 2020-21 NBL season as the Game Day Volunteer Coordinator for SEDA students. Stepping up to help enlist volunteers, allocate roles for them, provide feedback and basic training was a great opportunity. This meant coordinating 32 different SEDA students in providing over 400 hours of volunteering. With COVID protocols around professional sport so important to keep this season, I felt I had really made a difference with the Kings by my contribution to make the game day run smoothly. My organisation and leadership skills grew. Making quick decisions, thinking on my feet and communicating these decisions to volunteers are areas I improved on over the season. My highlight was seeing our volunteer team do such a great job, and having some of the players thank you for our efforts was pretty sweet. I think we made a difference this season.
